Surabaya is the capital of East Java province. Known as the second large city in Indonesia after Jakarta and the city of “heroes” due to its prominent role, which took place in November 1945, it is now growing much more a metropolitan outlook. With 4 millions inhabitants of which many of them are blue collar people, it has achieved several national and international rewards such as one of the best city in the world of habitation. Mountains are among East Java’s principal attractions and some of the more outstanding include the 3,676 meters active cone of Mt. Semeru, Java’s highest peak, the famous sand sea and steaming crater of Mt. Bromo, the sulfurous summit of Welirang, and the beautiful crater lakes of Ijen and Kelud.
